Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Where is the TTC Computer-based Testing Facility (CBTF)?

The TTC CBTF is in the basement of the Applied Physics & Mathematics building. Once you take the elevator or staircase to the basement (Level B), you will enter the locker room area. Remember that all personal belongings must be stored away before checking in for your test. Follow the single hallway to the right until you reach B349 and B432. B349 and B432 are located at the end of the hallway near the other set of staircases. You will check-in for your test at the designated area in the hallway outside of these rooms. Explore our hours and location for more information.

Can I take my test at the TTC-CBTF with accommodations?

No, students taking a PrairieTest with OSD approved accommodations will be testing at Pepper Canyon Hall 364. For information about accommodated testing, please visit Accommodated and Make up Tests (link).

What if I don't have an ID card?

A physical UC San Diego or government issued IDs such as a driver’s license, state photo ID card, military ID, or passport are acceptable forms of ID. Digital IDs and photos of IDs are never permitted, please plan accordingly.

Note that you may be refused entry to the test if you do not have a physical photo ID. Rescheduling is not guaranteed and is based on availability.

How far in advance do I need to schedule my test?

You can make a reservation up to 10 minutes before a session starts.

Scheduling tests at the TTC-CBTF will typically open on the first day of class every quarter. Scheduling for retest opportunities will open 1 week before the actual testing window.

What if I am running late for my test?

You will only be given until your original scheduled end time, no exceptions.

If you will be more than a few minutes late, it may be best to reschedule your test for another session to receive your full time. However, be sure to check seat availability before attempting to change your testing time

It is important to note that rescheduling missed tests is not always guaranteed, and opportunities to do so may be unavailable. We recommend that you select a test time that works for you and plan on attending, as you would with any in-class exam.

Can I cancel or reschedule my test?

Yes, you can modify your reservation up to 10 minutes before the session starts. Be sure to check seat availability before attempting to change your testing time.

It is important to note that rescheduling missed tests is not always guaranteed, and opportunities to do so may be unavailable. We recommend that you select a test time that works for you and plan on attending, as you would with any in-class exam.

Rescheduling missed tests is not always guaranteed, and opportunities to do so may be unavailable due to seat availability and the testing window. We recommend that you select a test time that works for you and plan on attending, as you would with any in-class exam.

What should I do if there are no seats available?

Unfortunately, this means we are fully booked. You may request instructor permission to test outside of the authorized window; however, we cannot guarantee they will approve of your request. Email us at tritontesting@ucsd.edu for further assistance.

Should the instructor approve, we will schedule you.

We are unable to further assist should the instructor deny your request. For future assessments, we suggest that you schedule the tests in advance and plan to attend your reservation. Be advised that there is typically less scheduling flexibility towards the end of the testing window.

Why can't I bring my belongings to the testing room?

Personal belongings and outside materials can compromise the integrity of the test. All tests registered at the CBTF are given access to appropriate testing materials and courtesy items by the TTC and do not require additional resources. In doing this, the TTC promotes the integrity of the test and authentically assesses what students have learned.

TTC Provided Items:

  • ear plugs
  • scientific calculators (when permitted by the course)
  • scratch paper
  • writing utensils.
For classes that are approved to have digital notes, your notes must be uploaded on PrairieLearn before your reservation so that you may use it during your session. Contact your instructor for more information regarding how to upload digital notes into PrairieLearn. Bringing a physical note sheet into the testing room is prohibited.

Am I allowed to use a calculator on my test?

Calculator use depends on your course. Some courses are allowed to use a TTC-provided scientific calculator on their tests in the CBTF, and some are not. If calculators are restricted for your test, you will see a “No Calculators” icon along with the message: Calculators are NOT allowed on this test.”  Using a calculator when it is not permitted will be reported to your instructor.

The image has a calculator with a red cross on top of it stating "No Calculators." This will be the image students see on PrairieTest if they're not permitted to use a calculator on the test.

What if I have a question on the test?

Our staff is only able to assist with technical issues that may arise. These include any issues with the computer itself or accessing the test. Any questions or issues concerning the content or functioning of the test must be reported directly to your instructor. Once you begin, you will see an option to report the issue next to each question.

Will I know how much time I have left on my test?

Yes, there is a countdown timer on the upper right side of the screen in PrairieTest, a digital clock at the front of the room, and a yellow warning box will appear when you have 1 minute remaining for your test.

What happens to my test once I'm done?

Once you have saved and submitted your test, you will no longer have access to it. Depending on how the professor has set up the test, it may be automatically graded or graded by your instructional team on PrairieLearn.

Note, all tests will automatically close once the timer runs out. It is important to save your work before the timer ends.
